The Peugeot e-Boxer: an electric base that works well for a campervan

Peugeot eboxer

The Peugeot e-Boxer is an electric commercial vehicle that works remarkably well as a base for a campervan. It is technically prepared for additional electronics, has a flat floor, and offers the same large interior space you know from the diesel version. Ideal for those who want to drive electric without compromising on comfort or practical space.

Fiat e-Ducato and Peugeot e-Boxer: two names for the same electric foundation

The Peugeot e-Boxer and the Fiat e-Ducato come from the same factory and share almost all technology. They use the same drivetrain, the same battery pack, and the same electrical architecture. In practice, they are two brand names for the same foundation.

For the production of electric campers, the Peugeot variant is interesting because it is available in configurations that are particularly suitable for recreational use. Think of space for accessories, the possibility to use energy from the battery pack for the living area, and a technical base that supports extra electronics well.

Anyone familiar with the technology of the e-Ducato will therefore immediately recognize it in the e-Boxer.

What makes the e-Boxer suitable for camper production?

The e-Boxer has been adapted by Peugeot for situations involving more technology and extra weight, such as service vehicles and campers.

Key points:

  • No speed limit
  • Possibility to use energy from the main battery for the living area
  • Preparation for extra electronics and accessories
  • A chassis designed for the higher base weight of electric vehicles
  • A faster DC charger up to 22 kW

This allows the van to be used for camper production without having to make concessions on interior space or functionality.

Range that suits camper use

The Peugeot e-Boxer has a 110 kWh battery pack. In practice, that means about 350 kilometers with normal driving behavior. For most camper owners, that is more than enough. Most do not drive all day long and take regular breaks along the way anyway.

Fast charging is possible up to 150 kW. During a coffee or a sandwich, the battery is quickly back to a level that allows you to drive for over three hours.

Quiet, spacious, and stable

Driving electric brings peace. The engine makes little noise and hardly vibrates. For a camper interior, that works pleasantly, both on the road and at the campsite.

The battery is located in the floor, leaving the entire living space available. This provides practical advantages:

  • A flat floor
  • No elevations or structures around large battery blocks
  • Less noise in the interior
  • A stable driving feel due to the low center of gravity

That makes the e-Boxer a quiet and comfortable base for a campervan.

Prepared for modern camper technology

An electric campervan requires a modern and lightweight system that handles energy efficiently. Think of household power, heating systems, induction cooking, and a reliable connection between the vehicle and the living area.

The e-Boxer offers for this:

  • Sufficient power for modern household systems
  • Safe connection points for extra electronics
  • A stable platform suitable for long-term use
  • The possibility to link the household system to the traction battery

This base makes it possible to apply lightweight, efficient, and safe energy systems in camper production.

What about the weight?

Electric vehicles have a higher starting weight due to the battery pack. The e-Boxer is no exception.

However, European regulations make this easier. EU legislation has been adopted allowing fully electric vehicles up to 4,250 kg to be driven with a B-license. All European countries must implement this rule in the coming years.

Until then, you can choose a van that is already suitable for 4,250 kg and is temporarily administratively limited to 3,500 kg. This way, you can already drive it in any European country where the 3,500 kg limit applies. As soon as the regulations are implemented everywhere, the permitted weight can be increased again.

If you want to know exactly how that works, read our separate blog about the weight of electric campers.

Why the Peugeot e-Boxer is the base for the VAN-Jorn CHARGE

The e-Boxer combines space, range, and tranquility with technology that aligns well with camper use. It offers the possibility to smartly link household systems, has a quiet drivetrain, and is delivered in configurations prepared for camper production.

The main advantages:

  • Range of approximately 350 kilometers
  • Quiet and low-vibration
  • Suitable for modern camper technology
  • Fast charging up to 150 kW
  • Flat floor with full living space
  • Suitable for 4,250 kg on a B-license
  • Identical to the technology of the Fiat e-Ducato

That is why the Peugeot e-Boxer forms the basis for the VAN-Jorn CHARGE.
